Bridging the Void

This project allowed me to explore swathes of British landscape on the trail of practical, functional and stunning viaducts. I was drawn to viaducts by the quintessential fact that they represent humanity’s wish of imposing uniform straight architecture around nature’s natural curves. Yet the beauty of these viaducts is their ability to blend into the background.

I decided to take the viaducts and view them with fresh eyes, using digital technology to recreate and reshape them. Using exaggerated curves my aim was to convert these man-made structures into mountainous features, as if they had been reclaimed by the land. By dwarfing the surrounding countryside the viaducts became more majestic, more obvious, yet also more natural.
